Web Design Process (View all Services)

Producing a great website comes from having a great process for web design. That's not to say that every client or project is the same. We have a strictly defined process, but it is very adaptable. Many projects require more steps than others might.

It's reasonable to bring up the fact that some clients can afford more steps than others can. Web design projects with budgets that are bigger can give us the latitude to do more market research, execute very competitive analysis and gather focus groups and analyze the results. But it isn't mandatory that every client go through all these steps in the process. We put together a customized plan based on your needs to maximize results and value.

You can see our process for website design below.

1st Phase

Business and Revenue Model Evaluation

It's imperative that we know your business and understand your revenue model so that we can work towards meeting your company's goals. This process gives us the opportunity to give feedback and give any suggestions of possible new revenue streams that may have been over looked and we can further discuss the ones you currently have.

Market Analysis and Competition Web Review

We want to find out what your competitors are doing so that we can find out what they are being successful with and the mistakes they might be making. We also do research to find out how many searches have been done to find your industries products and/or services. This gives us a great idea of trends in your industry and demand for searchable phrases and keywords.

Web Design, Let's get Technical

Our team will recommend the best suited technology for the project at hand. We'll decide on the platform that makes the most sense, the scalability, any third party systems that may need to be implemented and we'll make sure your product works on all the most popular web browsers. When we have all the necessary information, along with your requirements, wish list and any concerns you may have, we will come up with the best solution to fit all your project needs.

Revision to Web Design Scope

It is likely that because of the work that was put in with the previously mentioned steps that we decide to improve the original scope of work. This is a practice that we encourage at this point of the process because it only improves the web project based on the new information gathered.

2nd Phase

Concept and Design Evolution

Creative Path and Brand Strategy

The way your company is seen and the emotion that is evoked, is brought about by the look and feel of the design. This can have a huge impact on how your company is perceived and if you do not line up the proper look with the correct market and demographic, you could be losing potential clients. We will have a discussion about target audiences and markets, and then we will develop your brand and all your marketing collateral. The elements that are set forth will be carried through to all design items in the future of this brand.

Website Mockup

This is the part where you start to see the possibilities take shape. We'll put together a homepage mockup so that you can see the colors, elements, layout, navigation, etc. This will give you a perfect idea of how the homepage will look and feel. We may do two to three mockups internally and show you the one we feel the best about. Some companies like to sketch the initial mockups, but we feel that doesn't give you a true idea of what the site can be, we'd rather give you a true taste.

Revising Web Site Mockup

This is the part that separates us from most of the other companies out there. We offer unlimited revisions to our clients at no additional charge. We will design new mockups for you to take a look at until you love and approve them. This is done for the homepage and also the essential internal web site pages that are outlined in the initial phases.

Website Internal Content Pages

It doesn't get any worse than having a great looking homepage, but when you get to the inner pages you have nothing but line after line of dull text that is horribly formatted. Stickboy Creative will come up with the correct fonts and styles to be sure that your text is interesting looking and we keep the content pages as good looking as the homepage. What we do for our clients is design a sample page with mock text to act as a template for creating the other pages. This will serve as a great model for anyone that will be authoring content.

3rd Phase

Web Development and Production

Web Production

In the first stage of the web production process our team of developers will take the mockups that have been approved for use and put them through a process called "slicing". This process entails slicing the mockups into much smaller images that we then take and use to program the user interface and design. What we get from this is a single page website that has nothing on it, basically a customized template. Search engine optimization is always on our brains when we build these custom templates and that's the way it should be.

SEO and Content Integration

After we spend a little time enhancing the content with you, we spend a lot of time tweaking the pages for the search engines. We add "alt tags", meta data, titles and we also enhance the text to a degree for optimum SEO results. As we mentioned before, you don't want to have the same boring text that every other website has. Your content needs to be interesting and informative to the reader or you may lose them forever.

Dynamic Web Elements Integration

A lot of the projects we work on include dynamic and/or interactive components (in different terms, web pages that have something other than static text). Typically our programmers start work on these items at the beginning of the project, and now the time has come to bring them together with the other parts of the website and begin testing with the correlating modules and/or functions.

Quality and Testing

You will have access to the progress of your website via a temporary link. This allows you to provide feedback to us at any time. We also employ a 4 step quality check system:

  1. Design: The team doing the design and development work, are going to check everything.
  2. Manager: The manager of the project will also go through your website looking for anything the first team might have missed.
  3. Executive: We don't deem a site finished until your website is looked over by one of the founders.
  4. Client: You will do a final review of your website so we can address any final issues and give you a website that is ready for the world.
